Maria G. Desimone

DOVER Maria G. (Scicchitano) Desimone, 85, died Friday, January 4, 2013, at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Alfonso Desimone. Born September 7, 1927, in Catanzaro, Italy, she came to the United States in 1948 and settled in York County. She leaves behind sons, Steven M. Spangler and William A. Desimone (spouse, Rebecca); daughter, Josephine Shirey (spouse, Glenn), Christine E. Gunarich (spouse, Michael) and Linda S. Ferguson (spouse, Rodney); 10 grandchildren and great and great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Anthony Scicchitano (spouse, Gail). She was preceded in death by her father, Giuseppe Scicchitano; mother, Marie (Megna) Scicchitano; step-mother, Angela Scicchitano; and sisters, Raffelina Reale and Caterina Abruzo. Maria worked for Peoples Laundry and Dry Cleaning and was also a homemaker. She enjoyed dancing, working outside on her garden, traveling and being with her husband and family. She will always be remember as a dearly devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who always out her family first in everything she did. A viewing will be 9-10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Church, 950 W. Market St. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. at the church with Rev. thomas R. Hoke as celebrant.
