It seems like yesterday that this nightmare happened.even though I lost touch, I was a)ways proud to say that I knew him, and was a small part of his early life. He was an amazing young man and still today there is a hole left in his absence. I will never understandexactly why, but I know the world is a better place because he was here. He will never, ever be forgotten. Love and prayers to you all

My deepest sympathy goes to Mike's parents, family, friends and Amanda.

I had the great pleasure of becoming one of Mike's many friends while I was in college. He was more than just a friend in the end; he was like a brother to me. He helped me get through many hard times in college and never left my side. He was the glue to every aspect of our graduating class. He brought many people together and no matter the adversity we faced we did it together because of Mike. Many stories have been shared over the last week and not one story ended with a frown.

To his parents,
You raised an amazing son. Everything he accomplished and every smile he brought to everyone's face is owed to you. The confidence he showed in everything he did was proof that he was raised properly. Underneath the plaque for the Humanitarian award at Penn College, there is a saying that I believe exemplifies Mike's life and mission while he was on this earth. It reads “The Greatest use of a life is to spend it for something that outlasts it” –William James. The memories we shared in college and the years after will never be forgotten. To Dave, the poem you read, “The measure of a man” touched my soul to the core. “Not - What was his church? Not - What was his creed?
But - Had he befriended those really in need?” This line definitely applied to our friendship. I was extremely home sick and ready to leave until Mike befriended me and took me under his wing. The man showed me how to be confident and trust in myself.

Between Mike, Rob and myself we continually had a competitive bond and I attribute my success in my career not only in college but in my job and personal life to Mike. I remember the night Mike called me and said he got the Humanitarian award, he was so happy. I remember him asking me “Did you get an award?” At that time I had no idea. Rob called me shortly thereafter and stated that he had got the Directors award. Again he asked did I get an award. Still I was unsure. I called Mike back and asked how he had found out and he told me to check my email on last time. So I did. There is was the Dennis Dougherty memorial award. The three amigos had succeeded in our mission. Regardless of our competitive nature between us all, that was our end game. We wanted to be the best Paramedics we could be. If it weren't for Mike pushing us I don't believe we would have been who we are today.

To Amanda,
I had only met you once, but seeing the smile on Mike's face when I met you at Kimball's said it all. I hadn't seen him that happy in a long time. He was finally with the right person that he could be himself around.

Finally to Mike,
Buddy you were my best friend. Even though you were best friends to many, I hold our friendship very close to my heart. I could go on for hours talking about you and talking to you, simply because you will be missed by many. I hope you see the impact you had on everyone's lives. The legacy of the Mike Eshbach will be shared for many many years to come. I miss you bud.

June 7, 2013

I had the absolute pleasure of knowing Mike, though I did not see him very often the last few years. I spent several years with him in Karate and being a larger man myself, Mike and I always ended up together training and sparring. Watching him grow up and mature was a pleasure and I compliment his parents on molding him into the man he was. We found we had several common interests, such as hunting and motorcycles. I myself do not hunt near as much as I used too, so watching Mike post all his hunting adventures and making a few comments now and again made me feel like I was still out there.
Mike is just about the nicest well mannered and thoughtful gentleman I know and I am honored to have been his friend.
I was amazed but not surprised to see how many lives and hearts he has touched when I arrived at the fire hall to pay my respects.
Rest in peace Mike knowing you are loved and respected by so many.

David - I still remember the day when you, I and Mike were in the Rutter's corn field – bagged his first goose, seems like a long time ago…it is one of the more memorable days in my life. A day in the goose field will not go by without Mike being remembered.
I am sure you will have countless comments from his friends where Mike make people smile and brought laughter in their lives. And while it's going to be difficult to think of this world without Mike, the best way to honor someone who is not with us anymore, is to continue living our lives and keep their memories alive through everyday events. Mike would have wanted that, and expects nothing less from those he has left behind.

To Mike's family & loved ones,
We were blessed to have known Mike. He was one of “the boys” that hung out at our house daily through the summer. Mike was like a brother to Laura & Jenna. I'm glad to have had the privilege of watching Mike grow into a gentle, caring, amazing young man who truly lived life. He enjoyed work as much as hunting and fishing. We will miss his smile and mischievous snicker/laugh. Our hearts are filled with heavy sorrow over this tragic loss. You should be very proud; Mike was a remarkable young man. We are praying you feel God's comforting arms wrapped around you as he sees you through this.
