Caryl Fields Obituary

YORK Caryl Lobe Fields, 88, died at 7:15 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Colonial Manor Nursing Home from complications of heart failure and COPD. She was born Caryl Lobe Jacobs on May 5, 1927 in Washington, D.C. to Edgar Jacobs and Carlyn Lobe. She was predeceased by a younger brother, H. John Lobe formerly of Baltimore. Caryl graduated from Forest Park High School, Baltimore in 1945. She was previously married from 1950 to1973 to Niles E. Fields of York who died in 1999. She was also formerly married to the late Lloyd Galbraith of York. Caryl was a devoted and loving mother and is survived by 2 sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard A. and Robin Starry-Fields of Clinton, Mass., formerly of Mount Wolf, and Victor L. Fields of York. Also surviving are cousins, Phyllis Cahn Meyerhoff of Baltimore, Charles Cahn of University Park, Fla.; and several 2nd cousins in the greater Baltimore area. Caryl was employed as a secretary at the former Teledyne McKay Company, the United Way of York County, and the former McCrory's headquarters in York. She previously worked as a secretary at Burlington Coat Factory in York. She was a former volunteer at York Hospital in the reception services and was later employed as a receptionist at York Hospital from which she retired in 2006. She was a member of St. John Episcopal Church, York. She was previously active in Parents without Partners, Eastern Star and Welcome Wagon of York. Caryl was an avid knitter and donated many baby blankets to the York Hospital maternity ward. A service of remembrance will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York. A visitation will be held Saturday, June 6 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John Episcopal Church, 140 North Beaver Street, York, PA 17401 for their building fund or to the SPCA of York County, 3159 N. Susquehanna Trail, York, PA 17406.

I met Caryl in PWP in 1977. We shared many activities together. I moved to FL 1980, but remained friends. Caryl,Jayne, John came for visits. Miss all of them.
