Gilbert Nejo Amador

Gilbert Nejo Amador, 73, of Fort Yuma passed away May 2, 2011 at Sharps Memorial Hospital in San Diego. He was born December 25, 1937 at Fort Yuma in Winterhaven.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He worked for various local companies driving semi-trucks and heavy equipment. He also worked as a security guard and police officer for the Cocopah tribe.
Gilbert went to Yuma area schools. He was a music and movie buff who spent many enjoyable hours recording music for himself and others amassing a large personal collection.
He was preceded in death by his parents Sandy and Rose Lewis Amador; sisters, Marie and Bessie; brothers, Reid and Harry; step-son, Arthur Millard Jr.
Gilbert was survived by his step-daughter, Elvera Millard; daughters, LaVerne and Lorna Amador; sons, Gilman Amador Sr. and Corinthian Barley; grandchildren, Elvera Amador, Ernesta Amador, Jason Amador, Delilah Amador, Jessica Amador, Hemshreh Amador, Eddie Amador, Gilman Amador Jr., Desiree Velasquez, Xochillit Phillips, Xyntrice Barley, Cameron Barley, Corinthian Barley, Corine Barley and Orion Barley; great-grandchildren, Isadore, Angel, Layla, Jocelyn, Damian and Jayden; nephews, Gilford Amador, George Amador Jr., Gerald Amador, Michael Amador Sr.; nieces, Ursela Mendez, Birdian Parker, Priscilla Prettybird, Georgina Amador, Geraldine Amador; cousin, Flora Palmer as well as numerous other nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.
Gilbert's final services will be held at the Quechan big house. Tribal rites will begin at 5:00pm Tuesday, May 10, 2011 and cremation at 5:00am Wednesday, May 11, 2011.
Pall bearers will be Gilman Amador Sr., Corinthian Barley, Eddie Amador, George Amador Jr., Gerald Amador, Michael Amador Sr., Reginald Antone, Alex Rooselvelt and Larry Laurenzana. Honorary pall bearers will be Gilford Amador, Jason Amador, Leroy Elliott, Ronald Conway, Pete Pablo, Stacy Durand and Keeny Escalanti.
