Joyce B. Brown PORTSMOUTH - Joyce Beale Brown, born in Portsmouth Nov. 11, 1932, to Helen Bartlett and Barnard Everett Beale, passed away peacefully Sept. 21, 2008, in Naval Regional Medical Center, Portsmouth. She was a loving mother, wife and sister and a kind friend to all who passed her way. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1950, attended The College of William and Mary and then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Hospital until she married her high school sweetheart, William Tyler Brown of Portsmouth, Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1949 and U.S. Naval Academy, Class of 1957. Joyce and her Navy husband traveled and resided all over the world until his retirement in 1983. They resided in her family home in Portsmouth since his retirement. Survivors include her husband, retired U.S. Navy Cmdr. Tyler Brown; three sons, Bart and wife Tonya of Virginia Beach, David and wife Sharon of Virginia Beach and Ty and Trish of Portsmouth; sister, Judy Parker of New Jersey; two brothers, "Butch" Beale and wife Penny of Long Island, N.Y. and Lloyd Beale and wife Shelley of Rhode Island; and 10 grandchildren, David, Nicole, Stacey, Jack, Jake, Josh, Anna, Katie, Helen and Grayson. Joyce is deeply loved and will be greatly missed. A funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Snellings Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, with Pastor Michael Putnam of Portsmouth and the Very Rev. Talmadge Bandy of Whispering Pines, N.C., officiating.
