I am very sad to hear of the passing of Garland I remember him as a strong messenger of The Word. Even these many years since I had seen him I often thought of him and his family. You probably don't remember me it has been a long time. My prayers are with you and the family.

To the family of Garland Hines Sr.,Our family is forever blessed and the better for knowing and having a Pastor such as this man.He preached with the heart of God,so many lives were changed because of his love, knowledge, and kindness.
VBCC was the church that grounded everyone that attended. Lillie and Garland will certainly be GREATLY rewarded for all they have done and sacrificed. They will be forever missed. Our prayers are with the family.

Michael & I are with you in our hearts and minds to day as you remember your father and our beloved pastor. Such a blessing to us all.
When we moved to VA Beach we knew no one and within just a couple of weeks were introduced to VBCC and the rest is history. We owe to Pastor and Lillie and all of you at VBCC our gratefelt thanks and appreciation for seeing us through one of our most difficult times during Michael's schooling. Leaving family and friends in the midwest, you all became our family and we learned so much. We still sing There's an Eye Up on High Watching You....and think of Connie, Eunice and Tammi's hose falling down.. Seriously, Pastor made a huge impact on me when he accused my Norske female relatives of chewing snuuse....all the while knowing his did. We love you guys and thank God for you and Your precious Parents who taught us much about the walk of the Holy Spirit.

To this day I'm not sure what may have been the outcome of our kid's lives without those precious years of school at VBCC. We celebrate Pastor's victory today and Miss Lillie's as well. You all are always in our hearts.

To all my Dear Cousins, I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Garland. I loved that man like my own Father. I always felt I could have been one of his own, and he and Aunt Lil always treated me that way. I will miss him so much. He had a way about him that could lift your spirits like no other! The way he'd pull you in to a story so intensely, only to turn around and pull your leg just a grand! He was truly one of a kind. I know from my recent experience that it's easier to say to someone "he's in Heaven now" and think it makes the hurt less strong. But when it's your own, it doesn't seem to help ease the pain quite as much as you'd like. But Oh my sweet cousins! I can say with all the joy in my heart, that man is in Heaven today and a Glorious time is to be had by all! As Tom would say "GLORY!" Tonight there's a Hines Family Reunion going own and we need to thank God that he is real and Loves us so. And while are hearts may be sad for a time, just know this. Right now he's probably asking Dad to pull his finger and all of Heaven is shouting and having a good time! I love you all so much! I wish I could be there-just know that we all love you and miss you so. We'd love to hear from you all. God Bless- Tim, Twila, Corrie and Tim II

To the Hines Family,
Marv and I were sad to hear of your father's passing. We were looking through old pictures with friends last week, and came across a picture of Garland, Lillie, my mom, Janet and dad, Roy. It was taken back in the mid 70s just about the time I graduated high school. What wonderful memories I have of your dad. As a young child and teenager, your dad played a vital part in my walk with God. His devotion to his church family and his faith, was not only an inspiration to me, but to everyone he knew. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
