Robert Garner Obituary


Robert E. Garner SUFFOLK - On Sunday Oct. 26, 2008, Robert Everett Garner went home to be with the Lord. Robert was born May 3, 1921, in Nansemond County, Virginia. He was one of seven children born to Benjamin Ocie and Ida Holland Garner. He was known to his family and friends as Rob. Rob spent his early years farming with his father in Nansemond County. He later went to work for the Norfolk City Water Works where he retired in 1983. After retirement, Rob moved to Eastern Shore of Virginia, where he resided until his death. Rob was a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church in Bloxom, Va., and was a faithful member until his health began to fail. Survivors include a brother, Franklin R. Garner of Bloxom; sister, Myrtle Jenkins of Colonial Heights, Va.; and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Lucy White and three brothers, Benjamin Garner, Russell Garner and Irvin Garner. The family will receive visitors today at the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory, Suffolk, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside funeral will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Holly Lawn Cemetery, Suffolk, by Laywoman Lucy E. Huffman. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Paul Belote, P.O. Box 894, Parksley, VA 23421. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbaker.com.
