Charles Evans Obituary
Charles Lewis Evans CHESAPEAKE - Charles Lewis Evans, 68, of the 2300 block of Meiggs Road, passed away Nov. 13, 2008, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. A native of Salisbury, N.C., he was the son of the late Percy and Ethel Evans. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a master chief signalman after 30 years of service. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Watson Evans; two daughters, Amy Cuddington and husband Larry and Lori Bostick and husband James, all of Chesapeake; one son, William L. Evans and wife Helen of Chesapeake; two sisters, Virginia Jenks of Rockingham, N.C., and Rachel Peeler of Salisbury; and four grandchildren, Larry Wade Cuddington, Amanda Agnes Evans, Jacob Charles Bostick and William Lewis Evans Jr. He is also survived by three special sister-in-laws, Patsy Armitage, Terrie Watson and Betty Dreer; seven nieces and nephews, Drew, Christopher, Kasee, Keri, Kris, Jeff and Kim; as well as a host of friends. A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, with the Rev. Raymond Hampton officiating. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service and at JoAnn's home after the service. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Chesapeake Fire Department, Station 8, 304 Albemarle Drive, Chesapeake, VA 23322. Dear JoAnn, Jim & I extend our deepest and most sincere condolences to you and your family. We have come to love Charles so very much and he has become a special part of our lives. We shall never forget him and cherish his friendship. Holiday Island was made such a better place because of him and will forever be special to us because of Charles.
