Rachel Tyler Obituary


Rachel E. Tyler SUFFOLK - Rachel Ellis Tyler, 91, died Nov. 21, 2008, at Nansemond Pointe. Born in Gates County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Timothy R. and Evie Mae T. Ellis and was formerly married to the late Edward King Tyler. She was a 1936 graduate of Sunbury High School. Mrs. Tyler retired from General Foods as an inspector. She was a member of Suffolk Christian Church, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher for the beginner's class and the West Memorial Bible Class. Mrs. Tyler was a former volunteer with the American Red Cross and as a "Pink Lady" at Obici Hospital. She was a former member of the Suffolk Woman's Club and former Cub Scout Den Mother. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, G. Stewart and Jeanette Tyler of Suffolk, Lynn E. and Pat Tyler of Wake Forest, N.C.; grandchildren, Robert S. Tyler, Joseph R. Tyler, Leslie C. Tyler and Taylor L. Tyler. A funeral will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the R. W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home & Crematory by the Rev. Michael D. Halley, with burial in Holly Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the funeral home today from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Care and Concern Ministry of Suffolk Christian Church, P. O. Box 1457, Suffolk, VA 23439. Condolences may be registered at www.rwbakerfh.com.
