Claudie L. Chamblee

Claudie L. Chamblee VIRGINIA BEACH - Claudie Lawrence "Pops" Chamblee of the 5500 block of Old Guard Crescent passed Jan. 25, 2009, at his home surrounded by family. He was born July 30, 1927, in McBurg, Tenn., to James L. Chamblee and Lizza Jane Wilks and was raised in Fayetteville, Tenn., until 1941 when he volunteered to serve our country in the U.S. Navy. He attended the Naval Academy in Great Lakes, Ill., and was stationed in Florida and Virginia as a rank of chief boatswains mate. He retired with honors after 30 years of loyal service. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Dawn Leigh Chamblee of Virginia Beach; three sons, Gary Lawrence Chamblee of Virginia Beach, Dennis Dwight Chamblee of Garlard, Texas, and Larry Dean Chamblee of Virginia Beach. He was one of seven children and leaves behind two sisters, Burma McBay and Era Nell Bates; one brother, A.C. Chamblee, all of Fayetteville, Tenn.; four granddaughters, Aimee Thomas, Nicole Chamblee, Brittiani Chamblee and Lauren Floyd, all of Virginia Beach. Claudie was a very loving father and friend to all. He is missed already and will be fondly remembered always. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
