William Burns Obituary

William D. Burns NORFOLK - William D. Burns of the 3400 block of Norway Place died Jan. 24, 2009, in a local hospital. Mr. Burns was born in Portsmouth. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a senior chief after 26 years and was employed by General Electric. He was predeceased by his father, William Burns. Survivors include his wife, Melvina; his daughter, Branden Burns; two sons, William Burns of Chesapeake and Carey Lewis of Norfolk; his mother, Virginia Burns of Chesapeake; his sisters, Vera McDuffie, Derrell Johnson and Linda Coleman, all of Chesapeake. A funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday in Metropolitan AME Zion Church, 1710 Springfield Ave., Norfolk. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Friends may join the family at the residence. I had the pleasure of teaching Mr. Burns' son, William, at Great Bridge High School. He is such a respectful young man. It saddens me to know that he is experiencing this at such a young age. I send him and your family many blessings and prayers at this time.
