Aray Hines Obituary

Aray J. Hines NORFOLK - Aray J. "Sister" Hines, 79, of the 400 block of Middlesex St., passed away Jan. 28, 2009. Born in Tillery, N.C., Mrs. Hines was a member of First Calvary Baptist Church where she served on the No. 2 Usher Board and the Women's Club. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, Mary L. Hines, Edith M. Wilkins and Katrina H. Anthony (Allen), all of Norfolk; three sons, Roy L. Hines Jr. (Pauline) of Clinton, Md., Linwood E. Hines of Norfolk and Avery Hines of Las Vegas, Nev.; one sister, Pearly M. Whitaker of Norfolk; two brothers, Willie T. James (Airleen) of Philadelphia and Jesse H. James of Elizabeth City, N.J.; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by two sons, Winfred and Leo Hines. A funeral will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Home, Berkley. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at 418 Middlesex St., Norfolk, one hour prior to service for procession to the church.
