Albert Lindsay Griffin

Albert L. Griffin GRANDY - Albert Lindsay Griffin, 74, of the 500 block of Poplar Branch Road, passed away Feb. 1, 2009, after a courageous 17-month battle with lung cancer. Born Aug. 20, 1934, in Falkland, N.C., he was the son of the late Paul and Alice B. Griffin. At the age of three, the family moved to South Norfolk where he graduated from South Norfolk High School in 1953. In 1957, he began work with National Bank of Commerce, a predecessor of Bank of America, and retired as vice president in 1994. Al enjoyed golfing, sailing and especially duck hunting when he moved to his retirement home in Poplar Branch. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Doris Owens Griffin; daughter, Pamela L. Ciula and husband Pete of Virginia Beach; brother, the Rev. James E. Griffith and wife Jeanette of Lynchburg; and brother-in-law, Charles W. Owens of Charlotte, N.C. Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Poplar Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Oliver and the Rev. Ed Griffin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following services.
