Joseph Libbon Obituary

Joseph John Libbon VIRGINIA BEACH - Joseph John Libbon passed away Feb. 28, 2009, in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital. Born Jan. 19, 1932, in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph and Laura Libbon of New York. He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 52 years, Joan Theresa Libbon; his best friend and son, Joseph Kenneth Libbon; his two sisters, MaryAnne Costa and Theresa Hazelton, both of New York; as well as adoring nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joe proudly defended his country by serving for the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He retired as store manager for Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Portsmouth for whom he worked 35 years. He was an active member of Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach as a Eucharistic minister. Joe spent his free time contributing to numerous causes in the community. He was a 14-year volunteer at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital and a past-president of the Lynnhaven Boys Little League baseball. Joe showed his passion and love for the game of golf by volunteering at several area golf courses, most recently, working as operations manager for Red Wing Golf Course in Virginia Beach. In celebration of his life, a memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Saint Nicholas Catholic Church, 712 Little Neck Road, Virginia Beach. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society or to Saint Nicholas Catholic Church in Virginia Beach.
