Although it has been many years since we were no longer together .... to this day I respect Milo as as a Father to our daughters, not born of DNA, but of love. Though we had our problems, there was never a time when we, as a couple, did not love our collective children. I miss him, and as we grew older and matured, learned that we created a loving, devoted, family that not time or distance...or even death can change. I love them all and will keep loving them until the day I no longer walk among them.... that is what love and life are about. Though we age and change, those days of happiness will never change for those we touch and those we leave behind. I am proud of what we accompished as parents and partners for our collective children and commit to try to make your legacy go on. With all my heart..... Janice

I was very saddened to learn of Milo's passing. I worked with Milo as a young Officer before he retired. All the young Officers at the time wanted to emulate Milo Gavin or "Mr. Gavin" as he was known to on the street. Milo was a stand up guy and respected by all criminals included. I learned a great deal in a short time from Milo. My sincere condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed.

to the family of milo gavin, i send my regrets for the loss of milo. he was one of portsmouth's finest and i mean that. i worked with him from time to time when i worked homicide. he was one that when things got hairy, you want him on your side. For a little guy, he knew of no fear and could run like a deer. He will be one remembered for a long time, a real cop that this department should be grateful for his service.Again, my sincere condolences to his family. Jimmy Roberts, (Retired) Portsmouth Police

To The Gavin Family, I was saddened by the news of Milo. I was fortunate to have known him. He was a police friend, always there to help. Wilbur, Kenny, Robert you have worn the uniform and are a part of the police family. Milo was a good cop and wore his badge with honor. My thoughts and love go to your family. You have many stories and laughter to share with your love ones for generations.

It is with a sad heart that I remember Milo here, in this forum. He was, as we say on the job, "a cop's cop." He had your back and there are very few that can say Milo was not the man to have around when the going got tough. He was as respected by his peers as he was feared by the criminals. He taught me so much in the short time I got to work around him when I was just a rookie cop. RIP Milo. BJKIII, PPD (ret)

I worked as a Portsmouth Policeman with Milo in the late 1960's and early 70's. I learned a lot from him and he had my utmost respect. He was always there when a call for help went out and wasn't afraid of anything. My sincere sympathy to his family.

I was truly shocked when I got back in town today and learned of the untimely passing of a very well respected man. I only had the pleasure of working with Milo for a year before he retired. But as any good police officer will tell you that is more than enough time to tell what kind of person someone is. Milo was a cops cop and left a lasting impression on anyone he came in contact with. He will be truly missed and my heart goes out to all in this time of grief.

I was fortunate to work with Milo during my 20 year career as a Portsmouth dispatcher. I did not know could be "tough", just thorough and professional. Dispatchers often think of patrol officers as "theirs" to look after during a shift and to keep safe. We did so each day and night by being ever vigilant in knowing where they were, even if Milo didn't want us to know, and making sure to listen attentively just in case they needed us. I feel a sense of loss as one of the "good guys" is now gone. To you his family, I want to let you know that Milo made a positive impact in my career, and I am glad that he was safe on my "watch" and made it home after each shift. My heartfelt sympathy for the Gavin family.

I'm sorry to hear about Milo. Milo was a good man, and a good policeman. He knew his job and he knew how to get the job done! I credit him with teaching me how to be a narc. He will be missed.

Dear Angie, Cindy, Wendy, Barb and family:
Although I haven't seen Milo much in the last few years that did not mean I didn't think of him often and love him more than you could know. I have prayed for him so much in the last few years and have kept on so many prayer chains that I have no doubt that he is with the Father in Heaven right now. Although Wilbor and I have been divorced for almost 30 years I did not stop loving his family who were actually my family and I still consider them that way. I cannot express to you how sorry I am for your loss and what you must be going through. I have been where you are now and the pain seems to be unsurmountably but just know that in time the hurt will subside and you will have such beautiful memories to carry you on for the rest of your life. Just remember that with God anything is possible and that you will see your beloved father/lover/family again.

Love,

Aunt Marjo and Uncle Johnny (Costell)
