Albert Finegan Obituary

Albert M. Finegan CHESAPEAKE - Albert Meredew Finegan, 65, passed away Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center. For the past four years, he resided at Dominion Village in Chesapeake. Albert was born in New York City. His family later moved to New Sharon, Maine, where he attended elementary and high school. Albert joined the military in 1961 and served as a corpsman. He was stationed on the USS Newport News in Norfolk. It was during this time that he met his loving wife of 34 years, Antoinette R. Finegan. After leaving the military, Albert became a policeman with the Norfolk Police Department. He later attended Old Dominion University and graduated, magna cum laude with the class of 1977. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration (accounting). Albert worked for Maine Central Railroad, Norfolk Public Schools, and retired as a self-employed accountant. He and his wife were members of Lynnhaven United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. Albert was the son of the late Marjorie Meredew Finegan and Fred A. Finegan. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Antoinette Russo Finegan. Left to cherish his memory are his two daughters, Tracy Finegan Cyr and her husband Richard and Julie Finegan Young and her husband Bryan, all of Chesapeake; two brothers, Fred Finegan of Virginia Beach and Ken Finegan of Gray, Maine; and six grandchildren, Matthew T. Cyr, Catie S. Cyr, Kristyn P. Cyr, Alec B. Young, Jack R. Young, and Erin A. Young. A graveside service with military honors will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Colonial Grove Cemetery, Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Dr. Ralph G. Satter. A visitation will be held Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Cedar Road, Chesapeake. Online condolences may be made through www.hdoliver.com.
