Jacqueline Hickman Obituary

Jacqueline S. Hickman CHESAPEAKE - Jacqueline S. Hickman, 76, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, Oct. 12, 2009. Born in Norfolk, "Jackie" was born to the late Albert and Flossie Wilson. She was a 1951 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Norfolk. She later attended Norfolk State College and graduated from Virginia State College, Petersburg. Jackie touched many lives beyond the classroom. She was retired from Norfolk Public Schools as an adult educator. Jackie was predeceased by her husband, Cleophus C. Hickman. She is survived by three loving daughters, Valerie Lawson (Frederick) and Paula Sayles of Chesapeake, Lisa Griffin (Kelvin) of Suffolk; a devoted sister, Constance W. Wyatt of Norfolk; four grandsons, one great-grandson, very dedicated caregivers, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends. The service in celebration of Jackie's life will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in First Baptist Church, 418 E. Bute St., Norfolk. Family and friends will be received at 117 Capital Ave., Chesapeake. Services are entrusted to Graves Funeral Home, Norfolk. You may offer condolences at www.gravesfuneralhomeinc. com.

Valerie, Paula and Lisa;
Please receive our heart felt sympathy during your time of loss. Mom (Essie Dozier) was just speaking of your mom a couple of days ago. I spoke with Charmin and she told me of your moms transition. Please know that you are on our minds and in our hearts. I will call you in the next couple of days.
Val, I will for ever remember and I am still grateful for your kindness and friendship during my loss of Kenny.

My mom & Miss Jackie have been friends from the first grade at John T.West elementary school.I always remember them talking on the phone & getting together to share special occasions all during my childhood.My heartfelt condolences to the family but just remember that she is in a much better place than this.I'll keep all of you in my prayers.Much love,Caroldine's daughter.
