Louis Griffin Obituary

Louis E. Griffin VIRGINIA BEACH - Louis Eugene Griffin, 87, passed away peacefully Nov. 10, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 23, 1922, to the late Harry and Maude Griffin. Mr. Griffin proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He then continued his career as an aircraft mechanic and inspector for the NARF. After 35 years, he retired from civil service receiving many awards throughout his career. Mr. Griffin was a master craftsman who was a jack of all trades. He graciously used his skills to help his neighbors. Mr. Griffin was an Outer Banks lighthouse keepers descendent. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 68 years, Wessie F. Griffin; children, Louise Butler (Sam), Barbara Harrell (Oliver), Sylvia Heisser (Peter), Ronnie Griffin (Lee), and Rodney Griffin; 10 grandchildren, Kris, Gary, Skip, Scott, Stephanie, Daniel, Kimberly, Denise, Jon and Amy; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clyde, Harry, and Wesley Griffin; and sisters, Dorothy Aresenult, Mary Lindine and Alice Mote. The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of Sentara Hospice, especially Laura, Trish and Doris, for their kind and loving care that they provided to our loved one. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12, in Rosewood Memorial Park. Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, will be handling the arrangements.
