C. Earl Jones PORTSMOUTH - Clifton Earl Jones, 74, of Upshur Place, died Dec. 7, 2009 in a Portsmouth hospital. A native of Kinston, N.C., he was a retired chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy and also retired from Craney Island as a fuel technician. Survivors include his wife, Rachel T. Jones; two sons, Alexx Jones of Virginia Beach and Jason Jones and wife Sarah of Corning, N.Y.; three stepdaughters, Theresa Oakey and husband Robert of Chocowinity, N.C., Margaret Speight and husband Randy of Powhatan, and Rose Olson of Portsmouth; three stepsons, Ralph Olson and wife Patty of Chesapeake, David Olson and wife Robin of Williamsburg, and Robert Olson and wife Glenda of Camden, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held Thursday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
