Willie Anderson Obituary

Willie Anderson PORTSMOUTH - On Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009, the Lord called home to rest Willie Anderson, better known to his family and friends as "Shag." He was born April 1, 1938 and was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Anderson; two brothers, Charlie and Percy Anderson; and a grandson, Matthew Williams. For 25 years, he officiated for the Southeastern Tidewater Officials Association and for many years, he was employed with the Portsmouth Department of Parks and Recreation. He retired from the Virginia ABC Board as a store manager after 29 years of service. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 24 years, Lois Anderson; three daughters, three grandchildren, four sisters, six brothers, and a host of other family and friends. A funeral will be held Monday, Dec. 14, at noon in Grove Baptist Church, Portsmouth, with Dr. Melvin O. Marriner presiding. Burial will follow in the Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Portsmouth. Viewing will be held today from 2 to 5 p.m. On the day of the service, the family will assemble at 11:15 a.m. at 6011 Arthur Ave. for the procession to the church. Corprew Funeral Home is in charge.
