Michael Koch Obituary

Michael P. Koch Sr. VIRGINIA BEACH - Michael Patrick Koch Sr., 49, went to his eternal, peaceful rest surrounded by his family Dec. 11, 2009. Michael was born May 21, 1960, in Encino, Calif., to Rosemary (Newton) Koch from Louisville, Ky., and John Koch from Jeffersonville, Ind., who now resides in Hagerstown Md. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Jodie (Pearce) Koch; son, Michael Patrick Koch Jr. and daughter, Jacqueline Jean - Marie Koch. He is also survived by three sisters and their husbands, Toni and Ernest (Rocky) Nelson of Hagerstown, Tracy and Tony Froitzheim of Long Key, Fla., and Tammy and Michael Needy from San Diego; in-laws, Harlean and Jim Shook; and sister-in-law Paula and husband Trevor Schneider. He is also survived by eight nephews, Jacob Nelson, Joseph Nelson, Joshua Nelson, John Needy, James Needy, Maddox Schneider and one niece, Mylee Schneider. Michael had many beloved cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Leo and Annie Newton; paternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Koch. Michael graduated from Williamsport High school in 1979 and was an outstanding athlete. Michael retired from the Navy as chief petty officer in 2000 after 21 years of dedicated service. He then worked for AMSEC and continued his career as a training specialist with SAIC. Mike enjoyed a great game of golf with his chosen band of characters. Mike respected and loved his position as assistant golf coach at Kempsville High School. He loved to sing karaoke with his family and friends. Mike attained his A.A. degree and was three credits shy of obtaining his B.A. degree. His love of family kept him strong. Mike never met a stranger and always remembered everyone who came into his life. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at NAS Oceana Naval Base, Virginia Beach. He will be recognized with full military honors. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Per Mike's request, the ceremony will be closed casket. Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, is handling the arrangements. All non-military people wishing to attend the service, must contact funeral home at (757) 495-7727.
