Charles Freeman Obituary

Charles Freeman Jr. SUFFOLK - Charles Leon "Bootsey" Freeman Jr., 76, the 100 block of North Ninth St., passed away Dec. 18, 2009. He was a native of Windsor, N.C. He was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. He retired from the U.S. Army as a staff sergeant in 1973 after 20 years of service. He served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart and the Army Air Corps Medal of Recognition. He was a Christian. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his parents, Charles L. Freeman Sr. and Fannie G. Freeman and a brother, Garris Freeman Sr. Surviving to cherish his memory are a son, Gerald Freeman of Suffolk; a stepdaughter, Cheyenne Pinkston of Talberton, Ga.; three sisters, Charlene Freeman- Coker, Joyce Stagg (Earnest) and Sandra Paul, all of Suffolk; three grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A service to celebrate his life will be held at noon Wednesday, Dec. 23, at Crocker Funeral Home officiated by Bishop Madison G. Copeland. Interment will follow in the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, 111 North Ninth St. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome. com.
