Joseph Cerra Obituary

Joseph Cerra
of Endwell
Joseph Cerra, 86, of Endwell, passed away at Wilson Hospital, Friday, July 18, 2008, after a brief illness. Our chief has shipped out on his final voyage. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Jenny Cerra; an infant daughter, Joanne Cerra; brothers, John and Patrick Cerra; sister, Mary Ewonsision; nephew, Tony Cerra. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Max Cerra; his daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo and Mark Wilbur; two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Rosena Cerra, Richard and Patricia Cerra; one sister, Anna Lalley, Archibald, Pa.; his dear sister-in-law, Irene Cerra. Surviving as well are many relatives in Alabama including: Richard and Kathy Fell, Gene and Bobbi Fell, Hoyt and Mary Fell, Frank Fell and their families; three grandchildren, Regina Hunt, Cathy Jo Land and Robert Cerra. Joseph also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, their spouses and families. One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with nephews, Michael, Patrick and Joseph Cerra who never tired of the tales he told, and will forever carry in their hearts a piece of their Uncle Joe. Joe served 11 years in the US Navy, as Chief Commissary First Class. After leaving the Navy, Joe and his wife Max, owned and operated the Boulevard Diner on Watson Blvd. in Endwell for 35 years, a colorful and vibrant establishment known to many in the Endicott area and beyond. They enjoyed early retirement and lived life to its fullest for 20 years after they sold their business. Their philospohy was "not to let any grass grow under their feet" and they did not. Special people have entered our life and we wish to thank them for their love and support. They are our caretakers, our companions but most importantly our friends. They are Jenny Mancinelli, Robert Donnelly, Getrude and Kelley. We could not have gone this route without you all being at our side. A special thank you to Dr. Samuel Abdalazim for his tireless work on our behalf for decades. Also special thanks to the staff of Wilson's South Tower 3. Joseph was truly a blessed man in life and will be so in death. We love you Dad. The torch has been passed not extinguished.
Private Funeral Services will be held and entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are by the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. In lieu of flowers, expressions in his sympathy may be made to the Girl Scouts Indian Hills Council, 32 W. State St., Binghamton, NY 13901.

I'll always have fond memories of Joe and Maxine both. I learned a lot from both, especially the art of meatballs from Joe during the evenings I spent helping Joe out with getting Maxine ready for bed during my last year of nursing school. I cherish those evenings, they were my surrogate grandparents.

Jody and Mark,

You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. We are so sad for your loss of your dad. I know how close you were with him. May he rest in peace and may you find comfort in knowing he is no longer suffering. Remember all the special memories you had together and hope those thoughts are able to help you through these next few days and always.

Oh Jody, our hearts go out to you, Mark and the rest of your family.
In time warm memories will replace the raw pain you are feeling now.

May that special man rest in peace and may you find peace in those memories.
