Doris Parsons Obituary

Doris Parsons
of Binghamton
"Those we hold most dear never truly leave us….they live on in the kindnesses they showed, the comfort they shared and the love they brought into our lives." Doris Parsons, born on September 11, 1923 in Deposit, N.Y., passed away peacefully on August 8, 2008, at the age of 84. Through out her life, Doris has been a strong and fiercely independent woman and at the same time was a warm, compassionate, giving and loving person. She will be greatly missed by her devoted nephews, Frank M. Smith, Richard A. Smith and Douglas M. Lewis; as well as her great-nieces and nephews, Cindy (Paul) Thompson, Scotty Ferris, Paul Smith, Brian Smith and Laurie Smith Skinner. Doris had many cherished friends who will also miss her greatly. Among them, her lifelong friend, Evelyn Jacobs, and special friends, Sam and Jackie Ferguson, Martha Taylor, Michele Emmich, Donna and Tim Phillips, Sally and Jim Bowie, Mary Corueil, Dick and Doris Spencer, her "adopted" son, Dale Marshall and the late Larry Jacobs and Ed O'Neil. Doris was predeceased by her parents, Frank G. and Belle (Buckingham) Parsons; her sisters, Olive Smith Lewis and Janet Parsons; and her niece, Sonja A. Smith. She was a graduate of Deposit High School, Class of 1941, and the Ridley Business School. From 1949 until 1968, Doris was vice-president and general manager of Blanding Electric in Binghamton. She was also an employee of Spencer Electric from 1970 until 1990. Doris was an expert electrician and very knowledgeable in many different aspects of general contracting. In addition, she had a passion for Newfoundland dogs which she shared with her late sister, Janet. Over the years they were very active in the Genesee Region Newfoundland Club and owned, loved and cared for many Newfs, including her most cherished, Jib and Cherek.
A celebration of Doris' life will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday evening at the MacPherson Funeral Home, 5 Whig St., Newark Valley, N.Y. Her family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in the family plot at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deposit, on Wednesday at 10 a.m. Those who wish to honor Doris' memory may do so with a contribution to an animal shelter or to Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Old Vestal Rd., Vestal, N.Y. 13850. To All of the Family of Doris~
i wish i had the talent of my Dad with his beautiful words at this time of your saddness and grief...
i just wanted you to know how special she was to so many people especially my Dad and my family ~ as my Sister mentioned how my Dad would love to hear from and talk to Doris - i also had that pleasure when she would call. i loved to listen to their conversations - they were precious - they were the best of buddies...she is now at peace with Janet - her beautiful animals ~ Jib and Cherek - my Dad and Mom ~ she's another angel to watch over you and all of us~
{she will also never miss to have to answer another "cab call" (which will make her smile)}~
when the Lord calls our loved ones home~ he leaves a gift of memories to last forever~
love ya

Doris was a very good friend with my Dad....Ed. Many years ago they met and she taught my Dad many things....especially when it came to electrical projects. My dad fell in love with her and the mention of her name always brought a smile to his face. Dad passed away three weeks before Doris did but they kept in touch right to the end.
They were a team in life.....now they are a team in Heaven. The B&B (Brains & Brawn) they called themselves. I'm sure my Dad was waiting there for her with open arms.....
I'm happy that she's in God's hands now. Rest in Peace Doris!

Doris was small in stature but one of the giants in life. Doris possessed the very best qualities any human could ever have. I will miss visiting her, enjoying her hillside yard and the view, and discovering how a tiny woman could accomplish so much before the world thought up the phrase 'Women's Lib'. As a sister in Christ, I will see her again.

I remember our next door neighbor in Deposit fondly. She was especially close to my older sister Mary Angelopoulos Papastrat who died 10 years ago. Doris was a very special person whom our family loved very much. She would do anything for her friends.
