Franklyn Kenyon Obituary

Franklyn D. Kenyon
formerly of Greene
Franklyn D. Kenyon, 86, died peacefully Wednesday, September 3, 2008, in Flagstaff, Ariz. He was born September 18, 1921 and grew up in Greene, N.Y. He is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Nellie Kenyon, Greene; his first wife, Bernitta Kenyon; his son, Ronald E. Kenyon; his second wife, Mary A. (Rice) Kenyon; and his brother, Joris Kenyon. He is survived by his son, Stephen Kenyon, Flagstaff, Ariz.; his stepson, David and Gayle Rice, Greene, N.Y.; his stepdaughter, Lorraine and Ed Hammon, Cortland, N.Y.; his daughter-in-law, Terry Carter, Point of Vedra, Fla.; grandson, Jim and Tammy Kenyon, Endicott, N.Y.; grandson, Jason Kenyon, Binghamton, N.Y.; grandson, Ronald Rice, Greene, N.Y.; granddaughter, Christine (Hammon) and Mark Raymond, Homer, N.Y.; step granddaughters, Natasha, Alexandra and Sonia Mugnani; and great-grandchildren, Katrina Kenyon and Jake Kenyon. He is also survived by his dog, Snoopy, a faithful companion who visited him until the end. Franklyn graduated from Greene Central School in 1939 and enlisted in the U.S. Marines in 1942 where he reached the rank of Sergeant working in communications. He served during World War II with some of his time spent on the Marshall Islands. Upon his return to the States in 1945, he began working at the Columbia Gas Company, where he remained for 31 years. After retiring in 1976, he began his retirement years by moving with Mary to Cooper City, Fla., where he enjoyed his hobby of model car building and filled their "Florida" room to over-flowing. He enjoyed a good game of poker and a challenging crossword puzzle. He was an avid motorcyclist and drove his Harley Davidson into his 70's. Before moving to Fla., he was a member of the Square Deal Motorcycle Club and along with Mary was often flagging the corners in the races at Belden Hill. He loved spending time with friends over coffee, whether in N.Y., Fla., or Ariz., and until recently, was driving the 4-wheeler over to the coffee shop every afternoon. He was a gentle, patient man who will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2008, at Vestal Hills Memorial Park. Friends of the family may call Saturday, from 10 - 12 at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene, N.Y. 13778. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.

Dave Rice has been one of my closest friends for well over 35 years. He always spoke of Frank in the highest regards. Though I only met Frank a few times I could tell he was a wonderful and descent man. My deepest sympathies go to the Rice and Kenyon families. May your sorrow soon be replaced with loving thoughts.

Steve and Kenyon clan,
My condolences on the loss of your dad. Frank didn't miss a Sunday at Micky-D's. I still see him pulling up on his HD next to Ron's yellow bug. Blessed be both of them..

Ron was my best friend in the years before he left Binghamton for Florida, and he spoke often of Frank and his love of Harley's. Ron will have a wonderful reunion in Heaven. God Bless.
