Joyce A. (Lanfear) Leahy

Joyce A. (Lanfear) Leahy, of Endicott, N.Y., died at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, on September 8th after a brief illness. Joyce was predeceased by her parents, Harlan and Viola Lanfear, Greene, N.Y.; her brother, David G. Lanfear, Hamburg, N.Y.; and her nephew, Daniel Lanfear, Lockport, N.Y. She is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Frederick and Joanne Lanfear, Oxford, N.Y. Also, nephews, Rick Lanfear, Oxford, Charles Lanfear, Port Crane, N.Y., Keith Lanfear, Loganville, Ga., Edward Lanfear, Sugar Hill, Ga., David Lanfear, Jr., and Matthew Lanfear, Hamburg, N.Y.; and niece, Karen Roberts, Lockport, N.Y., and their children. Joyce graduated from Greene Central School in 1955 and was employed as a secretary by Raymond Corporation and later as an executive secretary by Crucible Steel in Syracuse, N.Y. She later worked for many years as an administrative assistant at GTE Corporation in Weston, Mass. In August 1960 in Watertown, Mass., she married John L. Leahy from whom she was divorced in 1986. They had no children. She retired to Binghamton, N.Y. and then in 2004 to the Ideal Adult Living Center in Endicott where the care and camaraderie were much appreciated by her and her family. She was the current President of the Resident Council there.
Friends of the family may call Friday, September 12, from 6-8 p.m. at Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene, N.Y. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 13, at Noon at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Greene Emergency Squad, 6 North Canal Street, Greene, N.Y. 13778.
