Doris Holly Obituary

Doris Marie Holly
of Endicott, New York
Doris Marie Holly, 82, of Endicott, died Sunday, September 14, 2008, in her home. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Frances R. and Harold F. Holly; two sisters, Anita M. Patton and Evelyn J. Pullano. Doris is survived by her nephews, David H. Patton (Susan), Charlottesville, Virginia, Christopher R. Pullano (Ellen), Apalachin, New York, Dale R. Pullano (Ann Marie), Denver, Colorado; and one niece, Cynthia A. Challis, Richmond, Virginia. The family extends their deepest thanks and appreciation to Doris's neighbors, Dan and Dorothy Wells, Ron and Nancy Hull, Dave and Pat Bidwell and her special friend, Kathryn Hawley. Their generous caring and support was a great comfort for many years. Doris was a legal secretary for the same law firm in Binghamton for 45 years. She was an avid fan of U-E football and booster club member. Her mother attended games before the First World War when Doris's father played on the team. The tradition continued with Doris until ill health forced her to give up her cherished season seats in the 1990's; a two generation span of over 75 years, rarely missing a home or away game. She bowled for decades with the "Five Misses" and it was always a treat for us kids to go watch her bowl on a Friday night. She was a diehard Yankee and Giant fan. Doris loved her home and family, she will be greatly missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 20th, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at at the Coleman & Daniels Funeral Home, 300 East Main Street, Endicott. The Rev. Brown Naik, Pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, West Corners, will officiate. The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Doris's memory to the Union-Endicott Football Booster Club, P.O. Box 37, Endicott, New York 13760.

My Great Aunt Doris was a very loving, caring, and warm Aunt. I will always cherish our visits we spent with each other. I’m so thankful that I was able to talk to her the day she passed, and will never forget that last conversation we had together. She was a wonderful Aunt and always said the nicest things about my father. She will be truly missed.

Doris and her mother were our next door neighbors on Day Hollow Rd in the 60's. They were wonderful neighbors and gracious ladies!

Today is the memorial service and I am writing this as it is going on. Although I am not there, I am thinking about it here I Colorado.
I personally want to thank all Aunt Doris’s neighbors for there support throughout her life on Day Hollow Road. I would call her every week and she would always tell me how nice everyone is and the wonderful food that was brought to her.
My memories of Aunt Doris were of always being there for me as I was growing up, all the sports that we were in that she supported, my college days and there for my mother.
Fate from God brought both my daughter Bethany and I to call her with-in hours of her death, this is very special to us.
I want to thank my brother Chris for working so hard with the arrangements and my cousins Cindy and David for traveling so far.
God Bless you Aunt Doris- we will miss you, but will reunite again some day.

Our heartfelt sympathy to Doris's family. Our mother, Lois Midglely Wood was "Holly's" dear friend since school days and she had shared many joys and sorrows with our family. They spent many hours playing bridge and attending U-E footbal games as members of the booster club. They had a special friendship and now they will continue that bond in heaven. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I went all through school with Doris and then her sisters lived just a couple of houses from us years ago in W Corners. Sorry for the nephews and nieces who we knew very well.

I will fondly remember all the lunches Cousin Doris and I shared when we lived in NY State, as well as the family reunions at Eldredge Park every August for Grandma Holly's birthday. She, and that wonderful sense of humor will be sadly missed.
