Gordon Clegg Obituary

Gordon "Butch" Clegg
of Endicott
Gordon "Butch" Clegg, 66, of Endicott, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord Thursday evening, October 9, 2008, at his home after a long courageous battle with illness and disease. He was predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Margaret (Trinble) Clegg, and his nephew, Jody Pitarra. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, Endicott; stepdaughter and son-in-law, Melanie and Glenn Dalgliesh, Binghamton; granddaughters, Alexandria and Samantha Dalgliesh; two sisters, Carolyn and husband, Joe Pitarra, Margaret Rood, Binghamton; two brothers, Tom Clegg, Melbourne, Fla., and Bill Clegg, Puerto Rico; several nieces and nephews. Butch was a veteran of the US Army serving in Vietnam. He was a retired employee for the US Postal Service. He was a member of the New Life Church in Endicott. He loved his Lord and served Him faithfully. He was an avid golfer and loved sports, and for many years coached both legion and teener league baseball. In his retirement, he delivered Meals-On-Wheels, and helped with the Screen Door Ministry at his church. He also delivered loaves of bread to visitors. The family would like to especially thank Lourdes Hospice for their loving care of Gordon. He had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed by everyone.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at the New Life Church, 201 Hill Ave., Endicott. The Rev. Ron Summers, Associate Pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Endicott, at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the church Sunday from 2:00 until service time at 3:00. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society, 13 Beach St., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790. Carolyn, our sympathies on the passing of Butch. His even-temperedness, humility and humor will be missed. And he showed such courage and "grace under pressure." We can see why you're so proud of your big brother Butch.

My deepest sympathy goes out to you Joyce. As I recall, Butch became ill not long after I sold you the house. I totally enjoyed working with the two of you and am sorry we did not get to spend more time together. There have been times when you both crossed my mind and I'm sorry I can't be with you now.
Sincerely,
Sandy (Crockett) Mosso
