Hello. I had Ms (Dr? it seems?) Throup as a professor at BCC. i just wanted you to know that she was one of the first people in my young adult life that really made a difference for me. i was an angry, nuetral teenager who had no interest in being at BCC or had any belief that i had anything that special to offer or receive. And in something that doesnt happen very often in college, Ms Throup took extra time to be interested in me, convinced me to be a tutor, helped me to believe i was talented and gave me a whole new insight to what was going on around me. she was warm, caring, smart, happy, and was so truly interested in everything. i used to think "why is this lady so HAPPY?" she truly gave me a new outlook, and new confidence. she was one of the few special people from that very important time in my life. i thought you'd like to know that about her.

Dear Ed and Family,
We are so saddened to learn of Mary Ann's passing. She achieved many accomplishments and gave of herself to many, along with her enthusiasm and always with a smile. We have fond memories as neighbors in the Terrace and attending all those VHS football and track events.

I was very sorry to hear of Mrs. Throup's passing. I had her for economics at BCC, more years ago than I care to remember but she made it most enjoyable, and left an indelible impression upon me.

It’s difficult for me to separate Mary Ann from Ed. They were together when I first met them and I can scarcely recall ever seeing one without the other. Ed and Mary Ann, that’s just the way it is. Physical presence alone can not separate a union as strong as the one they together forged.
I was a long haired high school junior, athletic but not an athlete, an average student, a little rough around the edges. In many respects, almost the exact opposite of Tim. But we became fast friends during our junior year at Vestal HS. Most parents would have cringed if they saw me walking up the driveway but not Ed and Mary Ann. They opened up their home and their hearts. In a time of my life when I needed security and stability they provided it. Their kindness and generosity was boundless and without reservation. I felt safe and loved in their home as I’m sure everyone that has ever been there has.
My most endearing memory of Mary Ann was how she used to make lunch for us when we’d take the boat (The Mary Ann) to the river for a day of water skiing. She’d take an entire loaf of Wonder Bread and make bologna sandwiches. Two slices of bread, a little mayo, one slice of bologna (she was an economist after all), and she’d put them all back in the original plastic bread bag. Tim, me, Jim, Barry, Ray, Marty would eat those sandwiches all afternoon. They tasted wonderful to us.
I am so very glad that I was able to share just a little bit of this extraordinary woman’s life. My sincere condolences go out to the entire family.
If it’s any help, I will offer this to you Tim and you Nancy; as the son of a remarkable mother that is now gone, I can tell you that the day will come when your thoughts of her will bring nothing but warmth and joy. She gave you so much when she was alive and she gives still. You’ll find you have an inner strength and peace that you didn’t know you had. Your mom gave it to you, and although it may be her final gift to you, it will be with you always.

Mary Ann was such a blessing to know and to have her in the choir was always a pleasure. I have many good memories of her wit and helpfulness during my time at Park Terrace.
Ed, the two of you meant a great deal to us and our lives were certainly enriched by knowing both of you.

Dear Ed,
This is a very difficult time for you and we are saddened by Mary Ann's passing. We know she is in a good place and that God is putting her to work even now. She was a great support to us in our ministry at Park Terrace, as were you. Thank you for all you have done and we thank Mary Ann in absentia for all she has done, especially for being good friends to all who know you, especially us.
God be with you,
