Charlene Barbara Curtis Peterson
of Sanford, N.C.
Charlene Barbara Curtis Peterson, 62, of Carolina Trace in Sanford, passed away on Monday, October 27, 2008. Charlene was born in Bainbridge, N.Y. to the late Charles L. Curtis and Ruth Curtis-Hovey, Bainbridge. Charlene was preceded in death by her daughter, Ann Marie Burr. She is survived by her husband, Gary Peterson, whom she married in Norwich, N.Y. on June 30, 1990; her daughter, Barbara Ann and son-in-law, John Joseph Kavinsky, Phoenix, Ariz.; mother, Ruth M. Hovey; brothers, James Curtis and Robert Curtis, Bainbridge; nieces, Jennifer Curtis, Rochester, Brenda Winchester, Unadilla, N.Y.; nephews, Timothy Curtis and Jeffrey Curtis, Bainbridge; brother-in-law, Andrew Peterson; and sister-in-law, Mary Alyce Peterson, Sidney, N.Y.; nieces, Audra Peterson, Bainbridge, and Erica Espaillat, P.R.; uncles, Charles Murdock, Chenango Bridge, Chester Cuyle, Stowe, Vt., and Roy Curtis, S.C. After graduating from Bainbridge-Guilford H.S. in 1965, Charlene worked at the telephone company in Norwich. Charlene then stayed at home for 12 years, cared for her daughter and two God-daughters, Jill Whaley and Stephanie Sumner, Rochester. She then returned to work at the County Clerk's office in Norwich, and then met and married her high school sweetheart, Gary Peterson, and moved to Endicott. She worked for the Tioga County Alcohol and Drug until retiring to Carolina Trace in 2003.
Visitation is scheduled to take place at Miller-Boles Funeral Home on Thursday, October 30th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral Services will take place at Jonesboro United Methodist Church in Sanford, N.C. on Friday, October 31st at 1:00 p.m. The Rev. Joe Wilburn will be officiating. Memorials may be made to The American Lung Association, PO Box 27985, Raleigh, N.C. 27611. http://www.lungusa.org. Gary, Ruth, Jim & Terry & Bobby-I've only met Chi a couple of times but my conversations with Bob brought me insight as to what a kind, understanding and compassionate person she was. I'm so sorry for all of you in her family and can only imagine her struggle to maintain life. As many have said, she is definately at peace and pain free-residing now with those she also loved.
