There was in our town, more than fifty years ago, a small sandy spot in a sliver of valley silt loam where classes of youngsters would be taken to practice their leaping skills. Georgia outjumped us all. Some of the boys were perplexed by Georgia, slight and very fast. I remember her face, with that inimitable look of the intelligence and focus by which mastery shall be achieved. Then she accelerated in the first summer sun of the day, across freshly trimmed grass still dewy from the foggy night and sprinkled with native white clover, across the shadow of a local steeple toward her launch point, a freshly drawn line in the sand. Although our adult life paths rarely crossed, I am certain that she mastered a good many other launch points along the way. May she know that we recall the look and the lesson with reverence and gratitude.

Dear Jesse, Aunt Pearl, Florence and John, Jay, Marie, Melissa, Mindy, Monica and Joseph, and extended family and friends:
Georgia was such an inspiration. She fought long and hard and had such strength and grace even on the darkest days. Knowing she has passed to place without pain and sickness or suffering is her reward. She will continue to live on in our memory.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
With deepest sympathy,
Kathy and Kees deVogel,

Georgia's family is in our thoughts and prayers. Although I haven't seen Georgia in a long time, I spent so much time there with Kelly that I just can't believe she is gone but she will never be forgotten.

Dear Georgia,
It has been such a privilege to have known you in this life. I so admired you for your intelligence, strength, tenacity, wisdom, caring and commitment to living with integrity.
We’ve shared so many good times: Boston, Corning, Jacksonville, Tampa, St. Augustine, Gulf Shores, Utica, Route 26, 38B and the many, many roads in between. Your physical presence will be missed, but you will always be a part of me.
You were very special to Juliana and Siena. You had such a way with them … you really listened and cared about their thoughts.
Thank you for sharing your self with us.

"What Cancer Cannot Do
Cancer is so limited -
It cannot cripple love
It cannot shatter hope
It cannot corrode faith
It cannot destroy peace
It cannot kill friendship
It cannot suppress memories
It cannot silence courage
It cannot invade the soul
It cannot steal eternal life
It cannot conquer the spirit."
Thinking of all of you and hoping that the days ahead bring peace in knowing that Georgia's memory will live forever.

Dear Aunt Pearl, Florence, Jay and Jesse, our heartfelt sympathy to all of the family. Georgia was an inspiration to us in her intelligence, committment, integrity, faith and determination. Her valiant struggle with cancer gave us all hope and faith. Florence, you did a heroic loving task in being there for your sister. Jesse, I remember how proud your mom was at your graduation. Her eyes just sparkled with pride and joy. You are her greatest legacy and I know her spirit will be with you always. She so loved you as you loved her.
Aunt Pearl, our heart aches for you in the loss of your amazing daugher. Like mother like daughter. You are so loved!
Our deepest sympathy in your loss and may you find joy in her rebirth.
With lots of love, prayers and peace,
Joan and Nubby

I remember going to see so many shows and concerts with Georgia. One of our all time favorites was seeing The King Singers in Ithaca at a church. The intimacy of the space and the sounds of the voices kept us anticipating the next sound we would hear. It was probably the most impressive concert we went to together. We loved the silent moments after each piece as the sound resonated thru the sanctuary.

To my cousin Georgia and all the women of strength in our circle of friends and family. You are all an inspiration and a testimony to the strength that we all possess.
A Woman of Strength
A strong woman works out every day to keep her body in shape, but...
A woman of strength kneels in prayer to keep her soul in shape.
A strong woman isn't afraid of anything, but...
A woman of strength shows courage in the midst of her fear.
A strong woman won't let anyone get the best of her, but...
A woman of strength gives the best of her to everyone.
A strong woman makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future, but…
A woman of strength realizes life's mistakes can also be God's blessings and capitalizes on them.
A strong woman walks sure-footedly, but...
A woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls.
A strong woman wears the look of confidence on her face, but...
A woman of strength wears grace.
A strong woman has faith that she is strong enough for the journey, but...
A woman of strength has faith that in the journey she will become strong.

Although I didn't know Georgia, I know what a profound effect she had on the people whose lives she touched. My mother, Barbara Morrissey, often shared news of her and Georgia's running adventures when she talked with me. I am grateful for the light Georgia brought to my mother's life and I wish great peace and happiness always for Georgia and her family.

I followed Georgia in many running races; our friendship began and my life was made richer because I learned from her a calmness and tolerance and appreciation for all that this life has to offer. Then we were Blessed to run side by side, without effort, sharing each others strengths, in races and in life. I believe she reached the finish line in first place in her last earthly marathon. And for all of us who follow her, we learned how a hero lives and passes. We could feel emptiness without her here but, all that she has left with us will never be lost or forgotten. I will always feel your presence. Georgia, You ran a great race! ...swifter than eagles
stronger than lyons...
Rest, my very special friend

Georgia, I will miss your strength, kindness, and competitive spirit. During marathon training when we at times caught up to one another, our conversations were the high points of the monotonous and long runs to Owego.
You have run the race. Be at peace.
