Charles "Chuck" Lenish
of Binghamton
Charles "Chuck" Lenish, 92, of Binghamton, passed away on November 23, 2007 at his home. He was born on January 16, 1915 in Corning, N.Y., the son of the late John and Anna (Sestak) Lenish. On November 23, 1941, he married Julia (Judy) Dunay. Besides his wife of 66 years, Judy, he is survived by his brothers-in-law, Joseph Dunay and Maurice Waldron; his nieces and nephews, Kenneth and Barbara Lenish, Michael Tatitch, Mary Elizabeth Dunay, Mary Catherine Dunay and Daniel Sooker, John Paul Dunay, James and Barbara Dunay, Julie Anne and Steve Dunckel, Nancy Ann Waldron and Randolph Desonia, Joseph Waldron, Elizabeth Bortle; his great-nieces and great-nephews, Michael and Margaret Lenish, John Lenish, Jeffrey Lenish, Christopher Lenish, Charles K. Lenish, Michael Tatitch, Sarah Sooker, Jonathan Dunay, Steven Dunckel, Mark Dunckel, Allison Van Ness, Raymond Van Ness, Seth Bortle, and Elizabeth Bortle. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marianne Dunay Lenish Janick; his brother and sister-in-law, John and Ruth Lenish; his sisters, Anna Lenish and Mary Lynch; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Leonard Bovan and husband, Andrew Bovan, Anne and Dr. Paul Calabrisi, Susan Tatich, Helen and George Hanchak, Nancy Dunay, 1st Lt. William Dunay, Elizabeth Waldron, and Ruth Dunay. Chuck was an avid golfer, with a 1 handicap, and started as a caddy at the Binghamton Country Club as a young man in the late 1920's. He was a charter member, past president and past secretary of the NYS Masonic Golf Assn. He was a longtime member of St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church in Binghamton. He retired from IBM in Endicott, where he was a tool and die maker. He was a member of Vestal-Otseningo Lodge #435 F&AM for over 56 years, AASR Valley of Binghamton, Service Chapter #68, Order of the Eastern Star, where he was Past Patron and had served as a district officer. He was a member of Kalurah Shriners for many years, a member of their Arab Patrol for many years, Kalurah Shriner of the Year in 2005, and was currently serving as an aide to the Potentate. He was a life member of the Binghamton Elks Lodge #70, BPOE, and a member of the St. John's Ukrainian Social Club. The family would like to thank Lourdes Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, 150 Main St., Johnson City, at 1:15 p.m. and at 2:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Greek Catholic Church with the Very Rev. James Dutko officiating. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Friends may call at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home on Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and Monday from 5-9 p.m. Members of Vestal-Otseningo Lodge will conduct a service at the funeral home on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Members of the Binghamton Elks will conduct a memorial service at the funeral home on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals, c/o Kalurah Shriners, 625 Dickson St., Endicott, N.Y. 13760, or Lourdes Hospice, 4102 Vestal Rd., Vestal, N.Y. 13850. A repast will follow the burial at St. Michael's Recreation Center. Caring assistance with the funeral arrangements are being provided by his good friends, Steve and Sherry Behe of the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford.

Growing up next door to the Dunay's I got to know Chuck and Judy very well. He was so kind through the trials and tribulations of life and I will always remember his cheerful disposition. He was a great guy.
