I was a classmate of Joe's at Horace Mann Elementary School and West Junior High School in the 1940's and we would walk home from school down Laurel Avenue together with other friends like Michael Herman, Bill Manger, Dan Resciniti, and Rae Lord.
Joe was an inspiration to us even back then and will be greatly missed.

I dated Joe for a year or so and we had many good times with our families, together. My children liked him very much and he was very good to them. We went to a Cortland Weekend and all he could sing was "Put me in Coach, I'm ready to play". Joe was an outfielder and talked and lived baseball. His voice as the cantor at St. Mary's, was awesome. He loved to sing in public but if the entertainer gave him the mike, Joe was "On Stage" for the next hour. He taught me how to make real Italian spaghetti sauce and his was the best I ever tasted. As a family, we will miss him and I will never forget how upset he got when he found out my oldest son, who is 51 now, has Muscular Dystropy. He was a true Italian Gentleman. God Bless all of you who may remember me. Lloyd Borne Gaige

Hard to express a lifetime of friendship and great memories in words.Joe was a good friend a great athlete ,and a devoted christian Godparent to my daughter. His big smile, huge heart and ceaseless energy always made you feel good.
Our loss here on earth is minor compared to the huge gain that those who have passed before will experience upon his reuniting with the multitude of friends that will
rejoice upon his entrance in Heaven.
God Bless , you will be missed!!

My memories of Joe are endless. We were room-mates at Cortland as freshmen in 1951 and baseball foes when JC played BCHS. His claim to fame was basehit off Eddie Feigner of King and his Court and Feigner seldom gave up hits.. even Mantle and Mays were strike-out victims.
Joe's hearty laugh will linger forever with me !
