James Martino Obituary

MARTINO, JAMES J. SR., 83, of East View Avenue, died on Sunday, July 6, 2008 at RI Hospital, Providence. He was the husband of Rosemary (Frago) Martino.

Born in Cranston, he was a son of the late Stefano and Maryann (Tanzi) Martino.

Mr. Martino worked for the U.S. Government as a Federal Police Officer stationed at the Federal Building in Providence for 30 years. He previously worked for Army Map Services of West Warwick. He was an Army Air Force veteran of WW-II. Sgt. Martino was one of only four of eleven crew members to survive a jump over German Territory where he had the assistance of the Partisans 'Boys, only 14 years old equipped with grenades, rifles, knives and uniforms taken from the Germans' to escape to a British mission after a three night four day hike. He received an Air Medal with three Oak Leaf clusters and a Purple Heart; his group received three Presidential citations.

Besides his wife he is survived by one son: James J. Martino Jr. of Cranston and one daughter: Carol D'Arezzo of Cranston, Grandfather of Stephen, Kristen, Philip and Michael, Great Grandfather of Lola. Brother of Rose Adamo of Glocester.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday at 10:00am in St. Mary's Church, Cranston Street, Cranston. I was away at the time of his death and just recently found out about his death.You and your family were always so supportive and affirming when I was a young priest at St.Mary's. My name is Diane and I had the privelidge to see Jim and Rosie almost every day for over ten years.I found Jim to be a wonderful person and loving husband.I was their waitress at Hometown Buffett. All of of who work days knew them well and even other customers. I send my deepest regrets for your loss, as I am not even family and feel the loss of a very good human being.We at hometown will remember him well.I feel he is happy now because he can be with his beloved wife all the time now and watch over her.
