Katherine Howard Obituary

HOWARD, KATHERINE 'KITTY' (HOLLOWAY), 90, of Kingstown Road, died Thursday. She was the wife of the late Frank L. Howard, and the former wife of Eugene Winslow of New Hampshire.

Born in Alton, IL, she was a daughter of the late W. Rupert and Constance Violet (Gould) Holloway. In 1939, she graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison majoring in modern dance, a new major being offered.

In 1942, she came to Rhode Island State College, now URI, to be on the faculty of the Physical Education Department. She earned a Master's degree in Library Science from the University of Rhode Island and became the head librarian for the Town of Narragansett.

She started a square dance club with her first husband. She enjoyed reading, teaching modern dance, and traveling, to Europe, Morocco, Peru, Mexico, China and Japan.

She is survived by five children and their spouses, Holly and David Stephenson of Wakefield, the Honorable Heidi G. Winslow and Louis Carbone of Newtown, CT, Peter and Dana Winslow of Washington, DC, Paul and Cathy Winslow of Reisterstown, MD, Jill Winslow and Russell Haschke of Dallas, Texas; two step-daughters, Dorothy Congdon of Wakefield and Henrietta Moineau of Lancaster, NH; three grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher and Michele Stephenson of Medfield, MA, Kelly Zola of North Kingstown, Sean and Laurie Stephenson of Narragansett; and eight great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Anthony Holloway and Robin Holloway.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM, Saturday October 4th in the Kingston Congregational Church, 2610 Kingstown Road, Kingston. Burial will be private and visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Memorial donations may be sent to: Narragansett Public Library, 35 Kingstown Road, Narragansett, RI 02882, with notation to the Katherine Howard Children's Book Fund.
