Silas Barber Obituary

BARBER, SILAS CLARK, JR., 88, of South County Trail, died Friday at Roberts Health Center, North Kingstown. He was the beloved husband of Hope F. (Remington) Barber.

Born in North Kingstown, he was a son of the late Silas C. Barber, Sr. and Florence (Lewis) Barber.

Mr. Barber was a machinist at Quonset N.A.S. from 1950-73 then worked at U.R.I. from 1973-89 in the Maintenance Department, before his retirement. He attended Quidnessett Baptist Church for over 60 years and enjoyed fishing and gardening. A Veteran of World War II, he had served in the United States Army. He loved and was deeply devoted to his family and his country.

He was the loving father of Silas C 'Skip' Barber, III of Irmo, SC and Judith A. Gammell of North Kingstown. Cherished grandfather of seven; great grandfather of one. He was the brother of the late John H. Barber, Carl H. Barber, Mary E. Peck, Allie S. Goulet, Ethel Palmer, and Elsie Gardiner.

His funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00am in Quidnessett Baptist Church, Post Road, North Kingstown. Burial will follow in Quidnessett Memorial Cemetery, North Kingstown. Relatives and friends are invited and may call Monday 5-8pm at THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory to Quidnessett Baptist Church, 6356 Post Road, North Kingstown 02852 will be appreciated. www.murphyfuneralhomes.org
