Dear Barbara and John,
Not a day goes by that both of you and Joy and John are not in our thoughts and prayers. More wonderful parents you could not have been; the son you raised proved that. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made was great because he cared so much about others. While some of the hopes and dreams you had will never come to pass, may you always find comfort in all of those that have and the joy of having had John in your lives. The love you all shared was truly a blessing. Remember that you are never alone; John is watching over you from above and we will be here for you always. Most importantly, in the difficult days ahead, take care of each other.

We Love You, Mare & Tom

John was a very special person, he had the rare ability to make anyone he met feel welcomed and appreciated. Many of us looked up to him as a leader, mentor, and friend. Personally he played a very positive part in my development at Florida Tech and I will never forget him for that. He was always there to help out in the good times and bad. I, like all the other members of Theta Xi (GBE) were truly lucky to have him as a brother.

John was the first person I met as a 24 hour visiting student at FIT. He helped me to let my hair down and to enjoy campus life. He left a trail of smiles everywhere he went. We briefly worked together at FMU a few years down the road...and he was still the same fun loving guy. This world has experienced a great loss. You will be missed, John.

Dear John, Barbara and Family,
We were so very sorry to hear about Johnny. My memories of him I shall alway hold in my heart so dear and very precious. Johnny was always such a good boy, so thoughtful, kind and considerate of others. I still see little Johnny coming into our office and he always had a way about him that would make people smile. I pray that God will comfort you all with special memories. I know in honor of Johnny so many, have become better people because of him. We will be thankful that we had some time with Johnny. We loved him and will always hold him in our hearts. God bless you John, Barbara, Joy, Pauline and Ray.

John,
You were my best friend for the last 12 years. I would not be where I am today if it hadn't been for you. You always made sure I didn't take myself to seriously. You also showed me I had strength I didn't know I had. It was the kind of strength that got me through my times in the war-zone. This and your friendship was your gift to me, of which, I can never fully repay. I miss you big brother.

I too met John & Joy when I first arrived at Florida Tech in August of 1997. Upon graduation I remained in Melbourne and was fortunate to still see the two of them when they brought their dog Lady into the veterinarian’s office where I worked. I could reiterate all the things everyone has posted thus far, but simply put, a wonderful young man was taken far too soon and will be greatly missed by many. Time passes and people drift apart but they always leave an impression on your heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your entire family. God Bless.

Dear Barbara and John:

Please know that you are in my prayers. I was shocked to hear of Johnny's death. Using my husband's words when we almost lost Paula 3 yrs. ago to brain anurysum, " God needed him more in Heaven than we all needed Him here". I can not find words that woul even try to console you. May God walk you trough this grief, talk to your son, and you may find some moments of peace. With sincere sympathy and affection.

John, Barbara and Joy,
Andrew and I are so sorry for your loss. Reading this guest book we know that John was an exceptional young man. Please know that we were once in the same place you are. We lost our son and he left a beautiful young wife. If you would like to talk (or re-kindle an OLD relationship)...let me explain, Barbara and I shared a hospital room in August 1977. We stayed in touch for a few years and I would love to get back in touch and talk. It would probably be good for BOTH of us.
Please know that you are ALL in our daily prayers and we are truly here if you need anything.
May God bless you and walk beside you every step you take.

John was the first face to greet me at Florida Tech: He helped me move into my dorm room as part of Greek Move-In. Even in carrying *my* stuff among the masses in Roberts Hall, he did it was a smile and a laugh. Nearly every other memory with John was the same. A smile and a laugh.
John was a good man, a good friend, and a good brother. And this is clearly evidenced by the overwhelming response of everyone at this tragedy. My condolences to all his family, and to all his loved ones.

To the Calcagni Family and Joy,
Although it’s been a few years, I still remember my days of driver’s ed with John. He was always making me laugh, which was hard to do given the early hour in the morning those classes were held. His smile was truly contagious. How lucky was I to have known such a great boy, who grew up to be such a wonderful man. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I had the pleasure of working with John at Everest. He was truly a great person to be around. No matter what the situation was at work John could always find humor in it and make me laugh. He was always playing pranks and making the days at work fun. We share a love of Disney and cruising and spent many times discussing our Disney plans or the next cruise we wanted to take. I will surely miss him. I will take a cruise with my family in December and will think fondly of John. Joy know that John was a bright spot to all that met him. May you find peace and comfort in your time of need. Mr. and Mrs. Calcagni may you as well. You all will remain in my thoughts.

Joy, I cannot remember a time at FIT that did not involve you and John, nor can I imagine what it would have been like had he not been a part of my life. John’s capacity to give of himself, his time, energy, and his love so unselfishly has always been what I admire most about him. The world is a far better place having had him in it. I, like many others, are truly blessed to have called him friend. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. My heart and my prayers go out to you and the Calcagni family.

Our family has had the honor of being friends with John since 2003. John’s positive and jovial personality was contagious, and you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who wasn’t drawn in by his charisma. In the short time we knew him; we shared a lifetime of good memories. All the bad rounds of golf we played, exchanging of Christmas presents, celebrating the Red Sox first World Series Championship in 86 years-these are memories we will never forget. We will miss you John. We will miss you at work, at special occasions and on game days! Emi and Kaylie will miss seeing you, and to quote Kaylie: “John’s one, cool dude!”

We will never forget you, John! To Joy and family, please know our hearts and thoughts are with you now.
