Mary Hill Obituary

Mary Ellen Maddy Hill of Coulter's Chapel near Lindside, Monroe County, W.Va., passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at the age of 97 years, 8 months and 14 days. Except for a brief residence in Wadsworth, Ohio, she was a life-long resident of Monroe County living within six miles of her birthplace at Greenville. She was a homemaker and member of the former Coulter's Chapel and current Lindside United Methodist Churches. She was active in the Adult Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, AARP, and did voluntary work at the Springfield Care Center for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Maude Broyles Maddy and Luther Richard Maddy, as well as her five siblings, Eula Hazel, William Richard, John Christopher, George Skaggs Maddy and an unnamed infant brother. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy C. Hill, in November 1985 after a marriage of 57 years; son-in-law, Charles H. Aliff; and grandchildren, Dorothy Jean Hill Shafer and Gary Wayne Hill. She is survived by her four children including Glen R. Hill and wife, Katherine Pence Hill, of Lindside, Rebecca R. Hill Aliff, of Salem, Va., William J. Hill, of Greenbelt, Md., and Martha A. Hill, of Roseville, Minn. She is also survived by five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home Chapel, Peterstown, W.Va., with the Rev. Carl W. Mouser officiating. Entombment will follow at Birchlawn Abby Mausoleum, Pearisburg, Va., with Denny Carter, Dustin Carter, J.D. Harvey, Heath Hill, Jarrod Hill and Sam Shires serving as pallbearers. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008, at the Broyles-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, Peterstown, W.Va. Online guest book can be signed or condolences sent to www.broyles-shrewsbury.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lindside United Methodist Church, P.O. To the Hill Family---she was a ladie all her own,and so many good things,specail her love of the church and then her family she was so proud of all of you,never giving in until her last few months, I will always remember the her in her yard or coming down the backs steps saying i'm coming with a smile and saying how are you and the family? MY thoughts and prays are with you all -Glen,Becky,Bill,and Martha--i know she is not in pain now and she all ready picking weeds and cleaning when she arrived she and your dad had alot of thing to go over with him--Rember the Allen Famiy LOve for all of you-Thelma,Pat Nancy Jimmy and Dicky all the familys
