I just watched Charles Kuralt's story on Wali's citizenship ceremony at Monticello on the 4th of July. Very moving. Wali was obviously a caring person and an asset to his adopted country.

Dear Angie, Austin, & family,

Like everyone else, I'm very sad to hear of Wali's passing. I just learned of it. What a kind and thoughtful man he was! We were all blessed to know him and to share in his good humor, hope, and love of teaching and learning. And what a valiant fight he waged in the face of serious illness! Were it not for Dr. Abdi, I would not be "Dr. Frass." I will keep your family in my prayers and lift you all up to our Good Lord. Love, John Frassinelli

I am very saddened to hear of your loss. Dr. Abdi was easily my favorite professor at the University of Memphis. His enthusiasm and humor truly made him one of a kind. I am deeply saddened by the death of Wali. He was such a dear and treasured person. The kindest and most caring person I have ever known. To me he was my wonderful cousin, best friend and mentor. He made a deep and profound impact on my life and I will miss him a lot but his fond memories will always be close to my heart. He was a role model in our family, a person who had genuine love to his family and relatives and always tried to reach to everyone.

My thoughts and prayer go out to his wife, Angie and our family.

S.Wali was a great, humorous and gentle man. our relation, familyside, was despite the great distance between the USA and Germany always very close and warmhearted. Especially to my father he was like a son, to us he was the cool uncle, treating the youth with the same respect, like adults, having and parting our interests. A big brother.

S. Wali - we will miss you so much and thank you for every single moment we have spent together. We will always keep in you in our hearts.

my deepest condolences to the family!

Dear Angie: Wali was like a son to us. We knew and loved him longer than anyone else at Virginia Tech. It is with great sorrow that we will miss him. We talked by phone last week and promised to meet again "over on the other side". He was a friend indeed and there will never be another Wali. Out heart felt condolences to you and all who loved him.

Wali was a teacher, but not of science or math, but of dignity, courage, honor and humility. He taught us how to make the best of what life has to offer. He taught us how to be the truest of friends and the most devoted of husbands and fathers. He taught us how to face the worst that life can offer and make it a wondrous adventure. He taught us that real courage is what happens in the heart not in the public eye. He taught us to face all of life's challenges with a sense of humor and good will to all.

I will miss my dear friend and will try to honor his memory by facing life with the same wonder and exuberance he demonstrated every day of his existence.

Angie and all,

Wali was one of the most unforgettable people I ever met. He was always warm, accepting and loving...from the time I met him at Virginia Tech, to our ad hoc reunion in Memphis when he was ill, he was always upbeat, and enjoyed life to the fullest. All of us from the old Barringer Hall days in Blacksburg share your grief, and know we are all there should you ever need anything. We have lost a wonderful human being, one who will never be forgotten, and will remain in our hearts, and actions, for as long as we remain on this earth. You, and the family have my greatest sympathies

Mrs. Abdi, Auston & family,
I cannot express enough how sadden I am at the passing of Mr. Abdi. What a wonderful man he was and what a great example he set for Auston. I will truly miss seeing him and hearing him say Ah, Mrs. Briggs......this or that.....he was such an interesting person and I am VERY thankful for the times we talked. He reminded me so much of the 'older Greek men' from my youth from my church. As much as we will miss him his battle is over and he will no longer suffer. Your family means a lot to me and know I will always be here to do whatever I can for you & Auston. Much Love,
