Words can't express what my heart feels. Please know that you have been and will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Ashley shared with us the news of Duane's homecoming. We were asking for a miracle and now we have just that. We only met Duane once but felt like we had known him forever. May God grant you His strength and comfort. Praise God that Duane is in your future.

Duane was always such a sweet, kind person. Every time I saw him at Virginia Tech he always had a smile on his face and never failed to make me laugh. I will miss him greatly! Just know he is at peace now and we will all see him again in heaven!! My prayers and thoughts are with you all.

I am truly sorry for your loss. Your family and mine have known each other for many years and it really saddens me that Duane has past on, but you have to figure that God has an important purpose for him to take him at such a young age. Although I never had the privilege of personally meeting Duane, I know he was a fine man from hearing about him from Frank & Rose. Frank & Rose had shared with me about his illness. Dearest Family, my heart is with you and with Duane. He fought so courageously and with so much dignity. He was truly an inspiration to all. I never heard him question "why me, Lord", a true sign of his faith in God's will. He even comforted me at times instead of the other way around.
I will always be indebted to you for raising a son who was such a special "brother" to my son. Duane's friendship was a gift to Brandon. You will always be in my heart and my prayers.

I met you John, at the 2008 Roanoke Valley Relay for Life at Green Hill Park. You told me about Duane. I also had leukemia 8 1/2 years ago & had a bone marrow transplant. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. I kept up with his illness thru my Aunt & her friend (& yours) Christine Powell. I kept Duane in my thoughts & prayers & I had him added to the prayer list at my church. May God be with you & your family during this time. You all will be in my prayers. Take Care.

Dear Family, through you I have seen the hand of God working in such a great and mighty way and a powerful way. You have as parents raised your boys to be such powerful witness for God and to you as examples of how to treat others. You have been given strength, courage and great wisdom and the gift of having the faith of never giving up when facing endurance, and this gift you have shared with Duane. Thank you for allowing your friends to travel that road with you in these past ten months. John and Connie you have been encouragers and workers that God has blessed you so that you could support your parents and Duane. Your prayers have been felt by all of us that God is in control. Jamie and Chuck you have shown that true friendship is being there to listen, to laugh, to cry and loving you through good days and bad days. Duane is still working in you and through all of us. He will be a star in our lives that will never cease from burning bright. We are truly blessed to have watched that star get brighter in evey part of his life. We pray for God to truly bless you now and help heal your broken heart and help you carry on Duane's example of loving God.
