Lawrence Musick Obituary

Lawrence Thurman Musick, 93, of Narrows, Va., went home on Wednesday, January 14, 2009, to be with his "ol' girl," Kathleen Sykes Musick, whom he missed dearly for the past 18 ½ years. He was born on May 25, 1915, to the late Daffron and Mattie Belcher Musick on "Big A" Mountain in Honaker, Va. He was raised on Weavers Creek in Cleveland, Va., moving to Giles County in the 1940's to work at Celanese in Narrows, where he remained for 30 years as a pipe fitter in the boiler room. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Narrows and served as Past Noble Grand of Wabash Lodge #189 of the International Order of Odd Fellows. He loved living in Giles County, and the little front porch where he sat in the sun chewing tobacco for so many enjoyable hours will never be the same again. In addition to his wife, mother and father, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Armster (Puny) Musick and Naomi Kiser, both of Cleveland, Va. He leaves behind two very adoring and doting daughters, Shirley Swain, of Bassett, Va., and Elaine Hanmer, of Narrows; five grandchildren that he enjoyed immensely, Captain Matthew Swain, serving in Afghanistan, Mark Swain, working in Baghdad, Iraq, Troy Craig and wife, Dana, of Richmond, Virginia, Justin and Katie Hanmer, also of Richmond; four siblings, Edith Kiser, of Cleveland, Va., Reatha Linkenhoker, of Roanoke, and Robert and Denver Musick, both of Lebanon, Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 18, 2009, in the chapel of Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows with Pastor Mike Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at Riffe's Funeral Service on Saturday, January 17, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be conducted by Wabash Lodge #189 of the International Order of Odd Fellows on Saturday at 7 p.m. The family requests that those sending memorial contributions, please consider Giles County Animal Rescue, P.O. Box 354, Pearisburg, Va. 24134. Online condolence messages to the family can be sent to www.riffes.com.

Elaine, Shirley.
Allow me to express my sincere sympathy in the loss of your Father.
It's comforting to know your Dad, to whom you and your sister were so attached, is now enjoying a well deserved rest, and at the same time it is sad to know he will be forever missed.. But forever loved.
He certainly had faithful caregivers in you. I never ceased to be impressed with your continual devotion and thoughtfulness during the last two years.
