Dear Pat and Billy Burrell,
My deepest sympathies to you and your families. Sorry I could not be there for the service but was thinking of you. I had not seen your dad for many years, but remember him at family gatherings fondly. He was a fun person! He and your mom were both such lovely people. I know you miss them terribly.
Blessings to you all, Barbara Blevins Clark (Ruth's daughter)

my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family on the passing of your father.
I have wonderful memories of drinking Stroths beer and eating shrimp after playing tennis.
I also cherish my time with him at the nursing home with my visits with my dog and have lasting picture of his smile.

PAT AND BILLY- WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE LOSS OF YOUR FATHER, I THOUGHT OF SO MANY WONDERFUL TIMES I SHARED WITH BOTH OF THEM AT FAMILY GATHERINGS AND MANY MANY DINNERS AND ADVENTURES WITH MY PARENTS POLLY AND PERCY. HIS HUMOR AND TENDERNESS WERE WHAT SET HIM APART AS SUCH A GREAT MAN TO ME. I REMEMBER AS A YOUNG GIRL GOING TO WATCH HIM PLAY TENNIS AT THE PARK ON WILEY DR. AND THINKING I WAS RELATED TO A VERY FAMOUS PERSON-IT WAS HIM WHO GAVE ME MY INTENSE LOVE OF TENNIS, MANY VISITS AT YOUR PARENTS HOME WITH MOM AND DAD(HE VISITED WITH HIS COUSIN POLLY AT LEAST TWICE A MONTH HER ENTIRE LIFE!), AND IN LATER YEARS NOT SO LONG AGO-AT DADDYS' 90TH BIRTHDAY PARTY IN FLOYD-THE HEARTFELT & EMOTIONAL SPEECH HE GAVE TO HONOR HIM WAS SO SWEET AND THE EPITOME OF WHO YOUR FATHER WAS. MY HEART IS WITH YOU,LOVE & PRAYERS TO BOTH OF YOU AT THIS DIFFICULT TIME. WE WILL ALL BE TOGETHER AGAIN ONE DAY... SUSAN LIGHT

We have lost a good one! I had the privilege - and pleasure - of knowing and working with Bill (Hux as I was introduced to him) in the Engineering Department of the Norfolk & Western Railway in the 60's. My boss at the time was the Engineer of Bridges, Henry Dearing, a long-time friend and co-hort of Bill's. Both were known for their ability to laugh and make work days fun - even if that was not always appreciated by supervisors or counterparts! And I know well enough that it was usually Henry's idea, but Bill was often a willing participant in their antics! Even though I have been away from the N&W since 1969, I often ran into and chatted for long periods with Bill in the grocery store, or occcasionally at the funeral of our mutual railroad compatriots. My sympathies are surely with all of his family - especially Ann, whom I had the pleasure of meeting on several occasions. My fond memories will always bring a smile to my face!
