Marian Palmes Obituary

Marian McKinnon Palmes, 83, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 8, 1925 to the late Malcolm and Persis Lecureux McKinnon. She was preceded by her husband, Gaines Kenneth Palmes, a brother, Malcolm R. McKinnon, and a sister, Edith Drees. Mrs. Palmes enjoyed spending time quilting and knitting. She was a veteran of the United States Army, serving as an Occupational Therapist. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Jon Poole of Blacksburg; two sons and daughter-in-law, Guy and Sherri Palmes of Winston-Salem, N.C., Stephen Palmes of New Orleans, La.; a sister-in-law, Doris McKinnon; five grandchildren, Kenny and Kyle Poole, Wesley Palmes, Ginger and Sam Plott. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Blacksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Reggie Tuck officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Graveside services will be conducted Friday, January 23, 2009 at 2 p.m. in the Columbia Gardens Cemetery, Arlington, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Church Street Station, P.O. Box 780, New York, N.Y., 10008-0780. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
