Isaac E. Miller Jr.

Isaac E. Miller Jr., 89, of Elliston, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 4, 2009. During World War II, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the 325th Glider Infantry Regiment of the 82nd Airborne Division. He participated in the campaigns in Sicily and Naples, the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was predeceased by his parents, Isaac and Mary Miller; and a grandson, Nicholas Miller. Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Janovee Cook Miller; sons, Dewey Cook and wife, Sharlene, Isaac Miller and wife, Wilma, Jimmy Miller and wife, Cindy, and Ronnie Miller and wife, Amy; daughters, Carolyn Ratliff and husband, Tommy, Cathy S. Thompson, and Charlotte Paitsel and husband, Larry; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road by the Rev. John Collins and the Rev. Virgil McHone. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, 2009, at Simpson Funeral Home, 540-366-0707.
