Gary Gore Obituary

Gary Alan Gore, 55, of Radford, Va., died in his home on Monday, September 14, 2009. He was born December 17, 1953, in Jacksonville, Fla., the son of the late Sennett Ward and Cecil Louise Gore. He later moved to Southwestern Virginia where he lived for most of his life. Mr. Gore attended Radford High School and continued his education at Radford University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. Gary worked as an auditor with the Defense Contract Auditing Agency for nearly 20 years. Gary was a passionate follower of politics, always eager to share his opinion or to battle wits with his more liberal children. He was an avid collector of knives and guns and a proud member of the NRA. Some of his happiest moments were spent playing with the family dogs, Ollie and Parker. Mr. Gore is survived by his son, Jason Gore (Kristen), of New York City; and his daughter, Emily Gore, of Seattle, both children from his 32 year marriage to Karen Gore, of Seattle. He is also survived by his brother, Gerald Gore (Francine); and five nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. In honor of Gary's love of animals, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Montgomery County, P.O. Box 287, Blacksburg, Va. 24063. Arrangements by DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford, Va., 540-639-2422.

Karen, Jason and Emily,

I am at a loss for words. I was not aware of Gary's passing until September 25th. I know there is an empty spot in your hearts right now. I will always remember the good times. He was a special friend. You all will be in my prayers.

To the Gore family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I will miss his smile and his honesty. I truly regret not having a chance to learn more about our history from him. His passion about history made any topic exciting.

To the Gore family,
I was saddened to learn of Gary's death. As Butch and Jim wrote, he was funny and very smart. He always spoke so highly of his family. He was immensely proud of his childen, despite their more liberal views. I pray that Gary is at peace now and that you will find some comfort in that. We will all miss him. Barbara Smith

I worked with Gary for almost 20 years. He was a gracious host, as I ate many meals with him and Karen during my many trips to Radford over the years. He was passionate about his politics and his firearms. Gary was never shy to offer his opinion, whether you wanted it or not. Besides being one of the funniest guys I have ever known, he was quick witted and smart. He loved history, especially military history, and even more, civil war history. Gary was a great friend, and we will miss him very much.

To the Gore family,

You may not remember me because it has been many years since I saw you. Gary and I met in college and then later when I lived alone in Radford I used to visit him. Just as the obituary said, we enjoyed talking about guns and politics, and occasionally going shooting. I was very saddened when I heard of Gary's passing and disappointed in myself for letting the years go by without seeing him. I visit southwest Va. occasionally and always think of Gary when passing through Radford. I also got periodic updates on Gary from Hubert Barton who I sometimes see through work. I guess the kids are grown now and I hope everyone is doing well. Again, I am very sorry for your loss.

Dear Karen, Jason, Emily, and the rest of your loving.

I am so sorry for your lost, Karen my husband passed away 5 years, and I miss him so much every day. I worked with Jason at the radio station, and you have a very crazy and loving son. The only words that I can tell you, is keep your face turn to God, and remember there will be a day that your husband and you will be together again.
