Corinne Harvey Urquhart

Corinne Harvey Urquhart, known to family and friends as Betty, peacefully passed away on Friday, September 18, 2009, surrounded by her family. She was the widow of John Hunter Urquhart Jr. Born on January 28, 1925, she was the youngest of 11 children born to Thomas Rudd Harvey and Virginia Davis Harvey. Her siblings, Sam Harvey, John Harvey, Hansford Harvey, Sparrell Harvey, Nathan Harvey, Erna Smallwood, Marguerite Mohler, Martha Stump, Louise Jefferson, and Teresa Boswell, all predeceased her, as did an infant son, John Hunter Urquhart III. She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Nelson and husband, Russell; and her son, John Hewitt Urquhart and wife, Debra, with whom she made her home for the last several years, all of Roanoke. She is also survived by grandchildren, Laurie Childress, of Richmond, Elizabeth Kolnok, of Roanoke, Michael Nelson, of Bridgewater, Angela Smith, and Haille Urquhart, of Roanoke. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law, Jean Harvey also survives. Betty enjoyed playing bridge with her wonderful friends and loved hosting holiday meals with her family. She was a 1942 graduate of Jefferson High School, was an employee of Norfolk & Western Railroad for 10 years, and was a lifetime member of Calvary Baptist Church where she enjoyed working in the baby nursery. The service will be from Oakey's South Chapel at noon Monday, September 21, 2009, with the Reverend Donna Hopkins Britt officiating. Interment will take place following the service at Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Oakey's South Chapel.
