Mildred Williams Obituary

Mildred Sorrell Williams, 88, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Friday, September 18, 2009. Born in Lexington on October 22, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Horace Sorrell and Myrtle Sorrell. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Albert Williams. Mildred was a graduate of Jefferson High School, and a long time member of Enon Baptist Church where she played the organ for 50 years. She also taught young children music in Sunday school, and one of her greatest joys was teaching piano lessons to her many students. Surviving is a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Those helping her during her illness were Nancy Karnes, Judy Hancock, Phyllis Simmons, Debra Wiley, and Chuck Jones. The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Monday, September 21, 2009, in the Roanoke Chapel of Lotz Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Giles officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 20, 2009, at Lotz Funeral Home.
