Anna Thienel Obituary

Anna Mae Yopp Thienel, 89, of Bedford, Va., died Tuesday, September 22, 2009, in Lynchburg General Hospital. Born March 1, 1920 in Bedford County, a daughter of the late James Yopp and Minnie Odell Collins Yopp. In addition to her parents, Anna was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Marie Thienel; five brothers, Grant Yopp (due to casualty of D-Day), Armon Yopp, Herbert Yopp, Nelson Yopp and Madison Yopp; and two sisters, Bly McFall and Alice Wagner. Anna loved visiting her granddogs, Quincy, Emily and Pebbles. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She also loved life, people and playing bingo. Anna worked and retired from Rubatex. She was a member of Liberty Chapter #109 Order of the Eastern Star and BPOE Elks Lodge #321. Anna was also a resident of the Elks National Home. Anna is survived by a son, Michael Zimmerman and his wife, Donna, of Bedford; numerous nieces and nephews, Dottie Padgett, Marvin Yopp, Barbara Ely, Janie Bower, Eunice Tolley, Virginia Smith and Colene Deacon; many great-nieces and nephews; many great great nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Skip Crompton of the Elks National Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The National D-Day Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 77, Bedford, Va. 24523. A celebration of Anna's life will be conducted at 11 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2009, at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Dr. Joey Anthony officiating. Burial will follow in Elks Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2009 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443. Very sorry to hear of the loss of your mom, Mike. I know how you are feeling, heaven is getting some very special moms this year. Our hearts will remember them forever, until our time to go home to them comes. Love You, Mike and Donna.

The world lost a very nice and exceptional lady with the passing of Mrs. Thienel. She was without a doubt one of the sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure to know. I am certain that Mike and Donna take great solice in the wonderful memories they have of their mother.
