Toney Motley Obituary

Toney Bryant Motley, 53, of Glade Hill, Va., left his family and friends suddenly on Monday morning, September 28, 2009. He died on the job, just like he said he would. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, always putting his wife and daughter first. Toney's favorite past times were watching racing on TV and yearly beach trips. His carpentry skills were second to none. He was always honest and fair to everyone he came in contact with. Toney's daughter, Angela says, "He's as good as Daddy's get!" He will be missed more than he would have ever imagined. Toney was born on July 19, 1956, a son of the late Paul and Virgie Motley. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Ashley and Shannon Motley; and a brother, Carlton Motley. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Regina Motley; his daughter, Angela Motley; one granddaughter, Morgan Motley; sisters and brothers-in-law, Paulette and Alfred Williams, Donna and Mike Kivett, Louise and Curtis Washburn, Betty and Carl Payne, and Joyce and Roger Yeatts; brother and sistersin-law, Virgil and Linda Motley, and Margaret Motley; father-in-law and mother-inlaw, Swanson and Linda Thurman; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Kim and Cindy Thurman and Randy Thurman; numerous nieces and nephews; grandfather-in-law, Ernest Horsley; and special friends, Johnny Guilliams, Cecil Scott, Frankie Chitwood and Anthony Chitwood. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2009, from Mount Carmel Baptist Church with Dr. Jackie Spence officiating. Interment will follow in the Motley Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Angela Motley Fund, c/o Member One Federal Credit Union, 40 Member One Way, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151. The family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
