Max Marcus Obituary

Max Quintin Marcus Jr., 66, of Bedford, Va., passed away Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. He was born on Sunday, May 2, 1943, in Lynchburg, a son of the late Max Q. Marcus Sr. and Constance Lee McQuarry Marcus. He, along with his wife, Joan, were owners and operators of the Sears franchise in Bedford. He was also a United States Air Force veteran. Surviving is his wife, Joan Reynolds Marcus; three daughters, Connie Lee Marcus, of Newport News, Tonya Bolt and husband, Tony, of Blue Ridge, Dawn Shropshire and husband, Matt, of Bedford; adopted son, Steve Hurt, Blue Ridge; three grandchildren, Nicole Carmella Marcus, Cody Lynn Bolt, Alisha Marie Shropshire; four brothers, Barry Marcus, Danny Marcus, Tommy Marcus, Ricky Marcus; three sisters, Adrain Palmer, Debbie Peaco, Lorinda Parks; his stepmother, Lois Marcus, of Lynchburg. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Updike Funeral Chapel, Bedford, with the Rev. Ray Lyons officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 until 3 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
